The Friends of Taan is a network of individuals from all over Haida Gwaii who are dedicated to stopping the bear hunt on the Islands. Our name refers to the Haida name for bear – taan.

The network grew from a concern about the number of bears being killed on the Islands and the desire to support the Council of the Haida Nation's resolution regarding bears.

RESOLUTION 95-01-HOA13 • RECREATIONAL HUNTING OF BLACK BEAR ON HAIDA GWAII

WHEREAS many black bear are killed each year on Haida Gwaii by recreational hunters; and

WHEREAS the killing of these black bear is wasteful and contrary to Haida ethics;

BE IT RESOLVED that the 1995 House of Assembly directs the Council of the Haida Nation to act to halt the recreational killing of black bear on
Haida Gwaii
We respectfully ask that people not come to Haida Gwaii to hunt black bears.

And please actively support the CHN resolution to Halt the Hunt.
